Head Chef Job Requirements

Midtown Bar and Grill is a family owned business in the heart of Manhattan, IL and we are looking for an experienced Head Chef to join our team.

Salary Year: $60,000

The ideal Chef will have experience managing kitchen staff, understand the importance of cleanliness and has the authority to create new recipes. Exceptional prepping skills and the knowledge to manage and properly order food from vendors. Overall, the successful Chef will be a dedicated and passionate individual to support the vision of Midtown Bar and Grill. Strong communication and organizational skills, with a passion for creating menus and food items that are sure to delight customers.

Requirements:

  • A commitment to the highest culinary standards
  • Develop unique and cuisine appropriate menus
  • Ensure that the kitchen and surrounding areas are sanitized and clean in accordance with
    company standards and health code regulations
  • Ensure quality of food items and service, while directing kitchen staff in meal preparation,
    creation, plating, and delivery
  • Estimating food requirements and food/labor costs
  • In-depth knowledge of kitchen operations
  • Be able to communicate professionally and efficiently with a friendly, outgoing, approachable
    personality
  • Monitoring inventory and purchasing supplies and food from approved vendors
  • Hiring, training, and supervising kitchen staff
  • Scheduling for back of house employees
  • Stay current on restaurant industry trends and identify new culinary techniques and presentations

Skills and Qualifications

  • At least 5-10 years of commercial kitchen leadership experience
  • A degree in a relevant culinary field of study is preferable.
  • Completion of safe certification
  • Proven experience as head chef
  • Advanced culinary skills including food preparation, flavor pairings, and other cooking best
    practices
  • Ability to develop unique recipes to meet restrictions including those based on health and religious beliefs
  • In-depth knowledge of federal, state, and local food handling regulations
  • Comfortable training, directing, and supervising kitchen staff
  • Exceptional leadership skills, including motivation and goal-setting
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Time management and organization

Work setting:
Casual dining restaurant

Education:

  • High school or equivalent
  • A degree in a relevant culinary field of study is preferable

Experience:

  • Head Chef experience: 5-10 years (Required)
  • Culinary experience: 5-10 years (Preferred)
